1.
White Walls 05:31
It’s no wonder, you’re feeling lost I said some things and i’m not too proud These four white walls, they hold you down Please taste the air and i’ll stay in here Going home, it’s coming soon My mind can change, but it’s up to you The claws are out, for me The teeth are in, from you
2.
Night Games 03:18
One eye on the future, two eye’s on our past Don’t care what it looks like, we’re staying down They know all your secrets, they know all your plans Don’t try to be someone, it’s not in your hands And in this light, the burning red, turns blue I’ve read all the stories, i’ve played all the games No hopes for the future, only lines in the sand I’m running on empty, with no way to get out All paths here aren’t equal, the curse of this land And in this light, the burning red, turns blue And in this shame, our hollowness, shines through Looking from up here, i see every detail It’s lonely here waiting, for the unkown
3.
Lower Depths 03:06
Don’t want the light, i see inside I’m lost in a hole, my head’s on fire Times in a daze, between the lines These days wasting away, that i cant fight I’ve hit my wall, but i can’t turn back I’m lost in a hole, my head’s on fire These days wasting away, that i can’t fight
4.
Silent Wave 04:54
Warming hands are holding tight, cracked pale skin, caressing mine Eyes they meet in careless stare, locked in deep, head to head Closing walls are falling away, blanked out minds, begin again Cold ice shards come raining down, deepened cuts, electric bounds We are the ones, the silent wave, drowning now, without a trace We are the ones, the silent wave, drowning now, without a trace

Never Enough 04:11
A silver net of happiness, as the tears you cried, they start to go And you start to feel the life, the flesh, it pulls apart your head, your soul It’s crooked Now you’re pinned down to the end and it’s the end of all your hopes You waited for so very long, so just shut your eyes and wait to feel And it’s all too much, because it’s never enough Outside, where the sky it closes in, this sense of wealth is all just lies and sin You walk away and try to forget this, you think how special it is to be just dead And it’s all too much, because it’s never enough And it’s all your fault, as it slips away
7.
In Deep 03:24
Destiny, it’s calling, it’s sinking it’s claws in deep And with this time alone, i’m thinking How you’ve been so good to me Waiting for the days to come, we slowly fade away Being here, not living, i see it brings you down And i’m trying hard to help you, but i feel i’ve come too late Waiting for the days to come, we slowly fade away Hoping for another chance, a time to rise again
8.
Awake 04:34
Sleepless words that fall away, a helpless search no luck again Here alone, i’m wide awake, scratching Stops, as lights they fade I hear a voice, it’s not for me, for me Joyless night in which we stay, flaking skin, no hints of pain I hear a voice, what did it say to me I’m awake
9.
V11393 03:49
10.
Unknown 04:08
When you say your words they bring me down, in lust Run away, but keep your head up high, for you, it’s lost Although it’s dark, i can see the lights, in haze I pull you close and hold you in my arms, as one, we lay Our minds, untold Our hearts, unknown
11.
Mirrors 02:44
12.
Yeah you’re right it’s like before, the curtain fell, but they wanted more You’re body’s weak, it’s slipping away, get off the floor, there’s no time to waste So here you go, a shot in the dark, you wanted it then, you got it now Look through the hole, see the other side, the mirrors cracked, but is it your mind The hours move, with twisted hands, bury your head, forget your plans today

about

Having begun life as a bedroom project for then Southampton-based Nicholas Wood to experiment with ideas around minimal electronica and shoegaze, The KVB has grown with partner and collaborator Kat Day. The now Berlin-based productive pair have released four albums of woozy and immersive anthems since 2010, with their prolific work ethic also extending to the release of a number of tapes and EPs too.

'Of Desire' is The KVB's most fully formed record to date, taking in influences such as Death In Vegas, Scott Walker and Roxy Music to create something that is at once familiar and yet inventive and original. Steeped in musical history, it's an album that hums with devotion and captures a band ready to emerge from the underground and embrace an ever-growing audience. "Being able to produce from home meant we weren't restricted." Wood says remembering The KVB's early days. Many of the songs on 'Of Desire' date back to these earliest bedroom recordings, including lead single 'In Deep'. "It's about longing," he adds of a song powered by a motorik beat and distorted blasts of icy guitars." There's definitely a romantic undercurrent to the record."

This romantic undercurrent is explored further on 'Never Enough’; a minimal-wave glitter beat that captures The KVB's growing confidence perfectly. The demo of the song has picked up nearly one million views on YouTube. "People on the comments think it's a very sexy song," says Day. "They seem to get turned on by it.”

The common thread running through the record is one of otherworldliness, as if you are entering another realm in which only The KVB has access. As Day explains, "It's about longing to be with someone and getting lost in a world that you create together." Wood meanwhile is exploring having dropped his guard and finding his voice more present in the recordings than ever before. "Lyrically and vocally you can hear my voice more on this record," he explains. "There's less of a shield between the listener. It's more personal. We wanted to try something new. It was time."

'Of Desire' will be The KVB's second LP on Geoff Barrow’s label, Invada Records. Home to similarly experimental artists such as Anika, College, and Barrow's own Beak>, the label has helped the band break out of the bedroom walls, which had begun to restrict them.

The band were invited to Barrow’s Invada Studios to record 'Of Desire', using his "wonderful synthesisers" as they began to flesh out ideas from bedroom demos dating back to Wood's earliest recordings. "We used to record and release music very fast.” he says, "This new record is much more considered in terms of dynamics, arrangements and instrumentation. There are a lot more layers to it."

Invada is also home to some of cinema's most engaging soundtracks of recent years, having released the scores to films like Ex Machina, Solaris, Hannibal and Nicholas Winding Refn's brutal neon masterpiece, Drive. Scoring films appeals greatly to The KVB. "We really like the soundtrack side of the label. We feel our music has a cinematic quality and that is something we’re keen to explore," Day adds.

Day, who studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths, also provides all of the visual elements surrounding The KVB, from album artwork to video projections for their live performances. Inspired by artists such as CGI experimenter Ed Atkins and German filmmaker, visual artist and video documentarian Hito Steyerl, her work is rich in texture; immersive and alluring.

'Of Desire' is The KVB's moment of sticking their heads up above the parapet. It's a bold and confident record that captures the ephemeral sense of magnetism in a relationship, that which pulls people together and creates a friction between souls.
